Can a small, informal fellowship be a "church"?

Would you agree that the purpose for believers gathering together it is to encourage each other in the Christian walk, to love one another and express that love through good deeds? Seems to me this doesn't have to be done in an organized body... it doesn't have to be a chartered organization with a board of directors and a dedicated edifice... it can be a small, informal fellowship. For two years, while living in northern Japan, my wife and I fellowshipped with a house church comprised of two farming families. Nonetheless, there needs to be accountability of the familial kind. There need to be brothers- and sisters- in-Christ who help to hold you accountable for growing more Christ-like, and for whom you do the same. There needs to be corporate prayer and worship, including observance of the ordinances of Christ (the Lord's supper/the love feast, baptism of new believers). There needs to be ongoing biblical instruction in righteousness. I can imagine all these things happening in someone's living room, but I cannot imagine them happening if you're not committed to a group of fellow Christians.

Does anyone here know about the Emerging Church movement? Any thoughts about smaller, informal fellowships that are growing in popularity here in the Western world?

Why is church Dull

I know some of your churches are just rockin' but ours is pretty dull. I don't want to know what other people are doing in their personal lives, just preach and let the word convict. Am I out of line for feeling this way?

Also, What are some ways to improve membership in our churches? Our church right now is losing members and is not that lively. I'm looking for some new idea's.

Would be nice to hear different ways to raise money for the church.

How do we know what to follow in the bible? Are we just following Jesus word (written in red)? or is there more? Does some of the word only pertain to the days back then or is there new revelations for today which is where talking in toungue becomes very important?

i have a question concerning the music aspect of things. I was blessed to see Fred Hammond in concert, and Kurt Carr is coming here this weekend. My mother bought me a ticket to Fred Hammond, and I am not going to see Kurt Carr because I just refuse to pay any amount of money because to me that is just like paying to go to church. When does it become a business and not done out of the love for God? I know these are different times, but there used to be a time when Dorinda would come here almost every year and there would be no charge. The last time the Clarks came, the tix were like 25 dollars on up. What happened to the time when these artists would just depend on God instead of charging these outrageous prices just to guarantee a profit?

Is it okay to take your children out trick or treating with the rest of the kids as long as they are not dressed as ghost, witches, devils, etc? I was told to take them to a church Halloween event but what is the difference if some of them show up anyway in ghost, witches, devil costumes. Either way arent they supporting Halloween which i think, but am not sure, is considered a Devil's Holiday?

Men Who Don't Want Marriage

I am addressing this questions primarily to any Bishops or "aspiriing" Bishops out there. What do you or have you said to any men in the COGIC who have told you or let you know that they do not want to get married? Have you in your ministry found some men who want to grow in God and move up to a higher position in the church and a higher calling in God but found out that they didn't want to get married? Do you think the Bible supports this for men living today?

Change & Growth in the Church

In this life, change is the only constant. Even those standing still will experience change. The Word remains the same. He is the same today, yesterday and forever. However, in order to reach the masses, we may have to present Him differently without changing the msessage. While we enjoy our culture and traditions, they are not what bring salvation and deliverance. How do we bring change to the church so it, too, may experience growth?

I just gotta take a moment to Praise the Lord. He is so awesome. We had such a time in the Lord today at church. We didnt even get to praise and worship, The Holy Ghost just rushed in. God is doing great things and aint no body mad but the devil. It is such a wonderful feeling to truly be in love with God!!!
