i have a question concerning the music aspect of things. I was blessed to see Fred Hammond in concert, and Kurt Carr is coming here this weekend. My mother bought me a ticket to Fred Hammond, and I am not going to see Kurt Carr because I just refuse to pay any amount of money because to me that is just like paying to go to church. When does it become a business and not done out of the love for God? I know these are different times, but there used to be a time when Dorinda would come here almost every year and there would be no charge. The last time the Clarks came, the tix were like 25 dollars on up. What happened to the time when these artists would just depend on God instead of charging these outrageous prices just to guarantee a profit?
Bless you my brother. I am an artist in the Chicago area. I understand your concern. But allow me to share a little....although one should look to heaven for eternal reward for ministry, we as people of God should be willing to be a financial blessing to those who labor in ministry. And unfortunately, many people don't believe in being a financial blessing to those in music ministry, so artist have to charge. I just had a concert and it cost me over $3,000 to do the concert. The Lord led me to not raise an offering (the concert was free). I had a basket at the back of the church for those who were led to give to give. People gave less than $800. So I was in the red by about $1200. Had I charged $15 I would have cleared what I spent and even made a couple of dollars. I am not complaining, because I know I obeyed God, but what I am trying to demonstrate is that ministry costs. Even though it was free to everyone in attendance, it wasn't free. I work a job outside of ministry, some don't. For some, ministry is their livelyhood. So we have an obligation to be a blessing to those in ministry. If they are blessing you, then go on and buy the ticket to help bless them.
